Alexander “Alex” Socarrás is Executive Vice President (EVP) of Global Commercial Operations and Head of Regions Americas and EMEA at Siemens Healthineers - Diagnostics. He has been a member of MedTech Europe’s Board since December 2021 as well as later becoming part of the Operations Management Committee. Alex is passionate about access to care, driving sustainability in the healthcare system through industry innovation, and a strong believer in the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as the idea that people and culture are strategic
differentiators.
Alex has over 32 years of experience within the healthcare industry, specializing in in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and life sciences, with a diverse background leading teams in multiple global geographies including North America, Latin America, EMEA, China, Asia-Pacific, and Japan.
In addition to his tenure at Siemens Healthineers Diagnostics, Alex served as Chief Commercial Officer at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, where he led the carve-out, global standup, and return to performance of Ortho under private equity ownership from 2014 to 2019. Prior to that, Alex was Senior Vice President and General Manager of Siemens Healthcare’s South West Europe Region, leading its Imaging & IT, Clinical Products, and Diagnostics businesses, after successfully integrating the company’s Diagnostics Division in Latin America. Alex has also worked for Bayer, Roche, and Baxter in North America with numerous roles in R&D, sales, marketing, and services.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from the University of Miami, and a Master of Business Administration (with Honors) from Nova Southeastern University. His is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
